History of the Life Science Industry Awards
Initiated by The Scientist, the Life Science Industry Awards were originally called The Scientist Readers’ Choice Awards. Winners were selected based on a survey of The Scientist’s readers. The results were announced in December with awards given in nine categories.

The Scientists again surveyed its readers in 2003. Awards were made in ten categories. In 2003 award winners were announced at a ceremony coinciding with the American Society for Cell Biology annual meeting in San Francisco in December.

The Scientist selected BioInformatics, LLC to survey life scientists and to tabulate their votes. The Science Advisory Board became a sponsoring partner. With this addition, the voting population of life scientists was expanded to include both Science Advisory Board members and readers of The Scientist. More than 2,000 life scientists voted for the awards. To reflect the expanded base of customers voting on the awards, the name was changed to the Life Science Industry Awards. The number of categories was also expanded to 18. Winners were feted at an awards ceremony in December, again coinciding with the American Society for Cell Biology annual meeting.

Four years later, the Life Science Industry Awards were clearly the most prestigious awards in the industry. The awards were again based on a survey of Science Advisory Board members and readers of The Scientists. In 2006, award winners in 18 categories were announced at a ceremony in April concomitant with the American Association for Cancer Research annual meeting. The Life Science Executive Exchange became a second sponsoring partner this year, promoting the event to its members.
