The Scientist selected BioInformatics LLC to survey life scientists and to tabulate their votes. The Science Advisory Board became a sponsoring partner. With this addition, the voting population of life scientists was expanded to include both The Science Advisory Board members and readers of The Scientist. More than 2,000 life scientists voted for the awards. To reflect the expanded base of customers voting on the awards, the name was changed to the Life Science Industry Awards®. The number of categories was also expanded to 18. Winners were feted at an awards ceremony in December, again coinciding with the American Society for Cell Biology annual meeting.
